In order to apply for a license to carry a concealed handgun in Texas, you must: * Take a training course of 10 to 15 hours taught by a Texas Department of Public Safety certified instructor * Demonstrate your proficiency with a handgun * Submit two sets of your fingerprints (electronically) and two passport photos * Submit your application online to Texas DPS * Pass a background investigation by Texas DPS * Pay a fee to Texas DPS The license you receive will be valid for at least 4 years. When renewed, it will be for a period of not less than 5 years.
SCHEDULE Our classes are generally held on the second Friday of each month starting at 6:00 pm at the Burdett & Son classroom. We shoot at 9:00 am the following Saturday at Gunsmoke Shooting Range (weather permitting), with the balance of the classroom instruction following back at the classroom.
COST
The course costs $98.00 and includes the range fee. You provide your own
factory ammunition (sorry, the state does not allow reloaded ammunition).
Loaner pistols are available for no extra charge. If you have friends who would like to take Concealed Handgun Training as a group, we can schedule a private class.
INSTRUCTORS
Dave Burdett A life member of both the NRA and TSRA, Dave has owned and operated Burdett & Son Outdoor Adventure Shop, the oldest gun store in the Brazos Valley, since 1982. Additionally, he practiced law for over 20 years. A staunch defender of the Second Amendment, he was a founder and director of the Texas Gun Dealers Association, and served as a director and officer of the Texas State Rifle Association, where he also served as a member of the Legislative Affairs Committee. He is an NRA certified instructor and Training Counselor in a number of shooting disciplines, as well as a Master Instructor of Hunter Education, certified by the Texas Department of Parks & Wildlife.
Jerry Mosley
Jerry is a life time resident of Bryan and graduated from Texas A&M in 1964.
A life member of the NRA, he has been a law enforcement officer since 1977
and an NRA Police Firearms Instructor since 1981. A past president of
the Brazos County Peace Officers Association, Jerry is a Master Class
Competitor in NRA Police Pistol Combat, and has been the president of an
IPSC/USPCA Combat Pistol Club for 18 years as well as a competitive combat
shooter during that time. He is also an accomplished Cowboy Action
Shooter. Jerry has been an accomplished gunsmith since 1962 and has
built many guns used by competitors. He graduated from the second DPS
Concealed Handgun License Instructor class and has been an outspoken
